Regulation of E-Sports and Its Impact

E-sports has experienced explosive growth in recent years, transforming from a niche hobby into a multi-billion dollar global industry. This rapid development presents both opportunities and challenges, particularly in the context of regulation. In Indonesia, the lack of a comprehensive and clear legal framework for e-sports creates uncertainty for athletes, teams, sponsors, and event organizers. This uncertainty can hinder investment, limit the professionalization of e-sports, and create potential for exploitation.

The absence of specific regulations also leads to difficulties in addressing issues such as player rights, fair competition, anti-doping measures, and the protection of minors involved in e-sports. Existing laws may not adequately cover these aspects, leaving legal loopholes that can be exploited. This situation necessitates a thorough examination of the current legal landscape and the development of targeted regulations to foster a healthy and sustainable e-sports ecosystem in Indonesia.

This research aims to address this gap by analyzing the current state of e-sports regulation in Indonesia, identifying the key challenges and opportunities, and proposing recommendations for a more effective legal framework. By focusing on the urgency of legal certainty, this study seeks to contribute to the development of a robust and equitable e-sports industry in Indonesia that benefits all stakeholders. The gap exists between the rapid growth of e-sports and the slow adaptation of legal frameworks to address its unique characteristics and challenges.
